About me - René Lirgg​​

I was born in Geneva in 1962, where I spent the first 6 years of my life.  It was when I started primary school in Aargau that I paid for having not picked up French properly in my younger years.

I did a banking apprenticeship with Credit Suisse before going to the University of North West Switzerland in Olten, where I specialised in accounting and taxes. I then trained as a Swiss Certified Controller SIB before doing an Exec. MBA at Lucerne University.

In my professional life I had always worked in the financial sector, so to bring more variety into my working life I enriched it with the areas ‘management’ and ‘working in and with foreign cultures’. That’s how I acquired so many languages and experiences abroad.

Since the start of my career, I’ve always enjoyed managing people to achieve shared goals. I began with military leadership (at the age of 26 I was a company commander leading 220 people, or should I say staff members?) and then professionally managed teams of up to 130 people, so I’ve always been interested in collaborative working and this has guided my personal development.  It’s not only the good moments, but also the difficult, unpleasant and uncomfortable times that you really learn from, when you are put outside your comfort zone. I had to learn that first….

In my free time I love doing sport and my favourites are jogging and distance running. I am interested in culture in general, and particularly in music, though I don’t play an instrument.  My other interests include Italy and Labrador dogs. I love travelling, going on regular short trips abroad.
